FuturLab’s upcoming shooter/platformer Velocity 2X just got a new gameplay trailer showing how things are going in the game’s alpha phase.

Velocity 2X is a sci-fi platformer/shooter hybrid with a strong visual style. It combines classic arcade action reminiscent of the days of parallax vertical shooters with platforming sequences where you get out of the ship and infiltrate enemy bases.

The game seems to be progressing just fine, and the video shows some very intense and fast-paced action sequences with exciting design and a pleasing aesthetic vibe.

Velocity 2X’s gameplay looks like a turbo-charged version of the original 2012 Velocity game, and apart from the new outside the ship platforming stages, the most striking difference is at the visual level, the new game featuring gorgeous effects and scenery.

The title is being developed for the PlayStation Vita and PlayStation 4 consoles, slated for launch some time during 2014.
