Adrian Chmielarz, the leader of new developer The Astronauts, says that The Vanishing of Ethan Carter is still in the early stages of development and that the gameplay of the experience might change before launch.

He tells VG247 that, “But what’s not going to change is that the game is a weird fiction horror.”

He adds, “It’s more about a certain mood and a sense of unrest rather than things jumping out of a closet.”

The Astronauts has no plans to focus on traditional terror sources like zombies, vampires or cheap scares.

The Vanishing of Ethan Carter is a game about the disappearance of a young boy and the way a detective uses his unique abilities to find him.

The protagonist will have a way of quickly assessing a crime scene to gather clues that others have missed.
