Both companies are aiming to dominate the living room

Phil Harrison, an executive vice president at Microsoft, says that the recent announcements coming from Valve regarding the SteamOS and the associated hardware prove that the Xbox One launch strategy is a good one.

He tells Edge that, “I don’t know enough about what they’re actually doing to comment but it does help prove that the center of gravity for the best videogame experiences is the living room.”

The executive says that he respects Valve and its attempts to innovate in the gaming industry because it forces other companies to remain competitive and capture the attention of gamers with their own new devices.

The leaders of Valve have been dismissive of Windows 8, another Microsoft product, and one of the motives for the development of SteamOS is to create a PC gaming space that no company can get a monopoly on.

The Xbox One will be out in 13 core markets on November 22.
