Valve might be working on virtual reality technology, but the company currently has no plans for a commercial release and hopes to continue working with Oculus Rift instead to create a device that is accessible to the public.

Rock, Paper, Shotgun quotes developers who are attending the Steam Dev Days as saying that the VR tech shown there is impressive and has huge long-term potential.

The two companies say that they are working to push the virtual reality revolution forward and plan to announce more solid plans soon.

Valve has launched a special version of Steam that can be used with the Oculus Rift.

It will be interesting to see whether the coming SteamOS and the hardware designed to work with it will offer support for the virtual reality device.

At the moment, Oculus Rift is using money from investors in order to create a more consumer-friendly version of its technology.
