Epic Games has once again talked about its upcoming Unreal Engine 4 technology, admitting that it could finally show it off to the general public at the end the year, although it’s not actually up to the company to decide this.

The Unreal Engine 3 powers lots of impressive games these days, with its developer, Epic, constantly bringing new features and improvements so that the graphics engine can show off its abilities no matter the platform, whether it’s the PC, PlayStation 3, or Xbox 360.

During this week’s GDC, Epic has admitted that it’s showing off the next generation Unreal Engine, designed for actual next gen platforms, privately.

According to its Vice President, Mark Rein, via CVG, a public reveal of the engine could happen in late 2012, but the decision isn’t up to Epic Games, as it seems that other companies also have a stake in its development.

While Rein declined to say who decided when the Unreal Engine 4 was presented to the world, you can bet that either Microsoft or Sony want to present their next consoles alongside the new technology.
