Video game publisher and hardware maker Nintendo has officially announced that it has named its first ever spokesdog in the person of Uggie, which audiences might know from his star turn in The Artist, the black and white film that has received a number of Oscar nominees.

Uggie’s main job for the coming months will be to promote the Nintendo 3DS version of the animal-minded game Nintendogs + Cats.

The game allows players to create their own virtual pets and then train and care for them using a variety of features and tools.

Scott Moffitt, who is the marketing vice president at Nintendo, has stated when the announcement was made that “Uggie didn't have to sit up and beg for his role as Nintendo's spokesdog.”

He added, “It's truly our pleasure to work with a star of Uggie's magnitude, especially to help animal lovers and portable gaming fans discover the fun of Nintendogs + cats.”
