The Annecy-based studio of French publisher Ubisoft is handling the development of the multiplayer side of the upcoming Assassin’s Creed III.

The studio is the same one that handled the multiplayer in both Brotherhood and Revelations, the previous two titles in the long-running series, and have won praise for the way they managed to respect the core mythology and mechanics of the series while delivering some adrenaline filled matches.

Tim Browne, who just recently joined the Annecy team, is the lead game designer on the multiplayer side of Assassin’s Creed III.

The team has also created multiplayer for Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory.

Rumors have suggested that Assassin’s Creed III will have four-player cooperative play in addition to the competitive modes that the series previously offered.

The game will make a shift in the timeframe to the American Revolution and the protagonist of the single-player part of the experience will be a half Native American assassin that meets some of the core historical figures of the era.
