The team could not make the entire concept work and changed ideas

The team at Turtle Rock that’s currently working on Evolve says that its first big hit, Left 4 Dead, was developed after the team tried to create a first-person combat game that used wizards as the main characters.

Polygon quotes Chris Ashton and Phil Robb, the leader of the studio, as saying that the experience had “a lot of fun elements but it was a little geeky, geeky in that it was kind of complicated. So we messed with that for awhile but that didn’t end up going anywhere.”

The team then focused on cooperative mechanics and created a zombie-powered concept called Terror which became Left 4 Dead.

Then, Turtle Rock left Valve and began to work on the first version of Evolve with publisher THQ.

When the company collapsed, the studio moved to 2K Games.

Evolve is currently set to launch this year on the PC, the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4 and will include both competitive and cooperative mechanics.
