Kalypso Media announces that it is working on Tropico 5, a new installment in the dictator simulation series, which is set to allow players to take the reins of an island from the colonial period and rule past the 21st century.

The game will also introduce cooperative and competitive multiplayer for up to four gamers.

Tropico 5 will include the dictator’s family, who can occupy certain official positions, and new research and building mechanics.

Developers are saying that the entire art of the game has been redone and a new trade system is being implemented to give players more options for their economy and diplomacy.

The dictator’s island will not be fully explored at the start of the game and prospectors will be required to get access to more minerals, as long as wild animals and enemy tribes are avoided.

The team has not yet announced platforms for Tropico 5 or a potential launch window.
