Already existing projects are not affected in any way

Reports suggest that Trion Worlds, creator and publisher of MMO titles, is laying off about 70 percent of its personnel, 100 people in all, mostly because of unachieved development targets.

Sources are saying that many team leaders will not get severance bonuses because they have failed to achieve milestones for the title they were working on.

Trion Worlds tells Kotaku that, "To best position Trion in a rapidly changing industry, we have reorganized our teams and are expanding our free to play offering. With Defiance, we delivered a great game that more than one million gamers registered to play and continue to enjoy."

The company has not confirmed the extent of the layoff process.

Trion Worlds says that Rift and other unannounced MMO projects are not affected and that they should be launched on time.
