Developer Hi-Rez Studios has announced that its free-to-play multiplayer-oriented shooter Tribes: Ascend has been made available via the Steam digital distribution service from Valve, allowing gamers easier access to the experience.

There are now more than 1 million registered players for Tribes: Ascend and the number is expected to quickly grow after the game made the move to Steam.

Says Todd Harris, who is the chief operating officer at Hi-Rez Studios, stated when the announcement was made, “We’re very excited to partner with Valve and deliver the World’s Fastest Shooter to the world’s largest gaming community.”

The Steam version of the shooter will introduce a new map for the Capture the Flag map, called Stonehenge, and another one for the Team Deathmatch.

In order to allow the competitive communities to have more options, Hi-Rez Studios is also introducing a new first-person spectator mode.

Game localization is also coming for German, Russian and Brazilian Portuguese players.
