The Creative Assembly says that all the Artificial Intelligence controlled factions in its upcoming Total War: Rome II will have different personalities that will combine with their starting locations to generate some interesting strategies.

Michael Simpson, the studio director, tells Rock, Paper, Shotgun that, “We tweak those to make them tend to act historically, so there’s an element of chaos in there as well.”

The team has focused on the improvements it has made to the computer controlled opponents and a number of those who have played the game report strong resistance on their part.

Total War: Rome II combines land and naval battles for the first time and many fans are worried that the A.I. will be unable to cope with the new mechanic.

The strategy title will also introduce more political and diplomatic mechanics and is set to launch on the PC on September 3.
