The Creative Assembly team working on the upcoming Total War: Rome 2 says that it will use an entirely new political system to simulate the complexity of interactions and decisions taken within the Roman republic.

The first Rome game split the faction in three separate families that eventually fought a civil war, but developers understand that many gamers see the system as artificial and plan to introduce new mechanics to show off how the various political entities competed.

During a 2013 Game Developers Conference session, watched by Joystiq, The Creative Assembly also suggested that it would add complexity to the other factions in order to match the enhancements made to Rome.

The new Total War will be launched during the fall and the team is also working on an Arena title that will mix Multiplayer Online Battle Arena ideas with real-time strategy features.
