Tim Schafer, the leader of the Double Fine studio, admits that Broken Age was split into two chapters mainly because he designed an experience that was too big to be created using the initial resources the team gathered via Kickstarter.

The team leader wants to make it clear that his team has worked well on Broken Age and, in a letter to backers, quoted by Gamasutra, he says that “the game looks, plays, and sounds amazing.”

He adds, “the good news is that the game's design is now 100% done, so most of the unknowns are now gone and it’s not going to get any bigger.”

Broken Age is at the moment segmented into two chapters, the first of which will be launched via Steam Early Access in January 2014.

The second chapter is designed to arrive for free in July the same year.
