Stephane D’Astous, a former leader of Eidos Montreal who has now departed Square Enix, says that rumors about the troubled development process for the Thief reboot have been blown out of proportion.

He tells Polygon that, “Every triple-A has its up and downs and I guess we were exposed more to the public when we were at the bottom of the barrel. That was a long time ago.”

Stephane D’Astous says the current team is doing a very good job creating the new Thief experience and that he regrets he will be unable to be present when the game is delivered to its fans.

The executive has left Square Enix because of creative differences.

Thief is set to arrive on the PC, the PlayStation 4 from Sony and the Xbox One from Microsoft in 2014.
