The lighting system is designed to make the world believable

The first gameplay demos for the new Thief were given during E3 2013 and some players have commented that the new stealth system feels unnatural and foreign to those of the original trilogy featuring Garrett.

Stephane Roy, a leading producer working on the franchise, tells VG247 that, “immersion is really, really, really important.”

Eidos Montreal wants to use lighting in Thief in order to create a complex game world and to give players an easy way of knowing when they might be spotted.

Roy adds, “In real life, it is not dark or light. You are in this garden, and you watch, and it’s like, ‘dark and light?’ I kill the immersion.”

Recently, the development team at Eidos Montreal has announced that it is planning to launch Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of Thief at the same time, in 2014, when it arrives on the Xbox One, the PlayStation 4 and the PC.
