Cloud-based online services won't replace home consoles

Microsoft has confirmed that the Xbox One won't be its final home console, as local machines still have advantages over cloud-based solutions, like the PlayStation Now service from Sony.

The Xbox One and the PS4 were released last year and, while both are quite successful in terms of sales, the two devices are being threatened by different cloud and online services.

According to Microsoft's Phil Spencer, however, there will always be a place for local home consoles.

He replied on Twitter to a question from one of his followers, saying that he didn’t think that the Xbox One will be Microsoft's last console and that "local compute will be important for a long time."

Spencer also mentioned that there still were barriers in front of online services, including bandwidth or traffic limits, so there will always be a market for a home console.
