In case you are wondering what a proper next-gen wolf looks like, you need look no further than The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, where the newest hair and fur renderer from Nvidia will work wonders in making the feral beasts look as shiny and fluffy as a prize pooch on competition day.

AMD might have its fancy TressFX and whatnot, but Nvidia hasn't been idly watching from the sidelines and is ready to fight right back with its own middleware solution that accurately models and renders various types of hair and fur.

The technology has already been put to use in Polish video game developer CD Projekt RED's upcoming project, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, as demonstrated by the video below, showing how Hairworks has evolved since it was first introduced back in 2008.

The vid shows a wolf running around like canines do, with its simulated 200k individual strands of fur, showcasing how artists can control different aspects such as waviness, density, and even clumps forming in the fur.

The technology has also been employed by Infinity Ward when they created Call of Duty: Ghosts, and Riley, the playable German Shepherd dog, also makes a cameo appearance in the vid, displaying its richly flowing fur, like he's the star of some hair product commercial.
