Despite the drop in the number of subscribers for Star Wars: The Old Republic, the leaders of Electronic Arts believe that the MMO is still in good health and can increase its player number in the coming months.

Frank Gibeau, who is the leader of the EA Games division, told investors that, “When we launched the product back in December, it was an event launch. We brought in a lot of users, and with a brand like Star Wars, it reaches out much past the hardcore MMO fan base into the broader market.”

The drop from 1.7 million was linked to the more casual players who decided not to renew their subscriptions and the executive says that The Old Republic is performing very well with hardcore MMO players.

He added, “So the percentage of paying subscribers from our peak until now has actually gone up, and the folks that we have are as engaged as they were when they first bought the product.”

He also revealed that BioWare has long-term plans to increase the number of subscribers for the Star Wars MMO in the coming months.
