A new development team called Hinterland Studios, made up of a number of veterans coming from BioWare, Relic, Riot Games and Volition, are announcing that they are working on a new game called The Long Dark.

The title is supposed to use an episodic structure and will focus on survival skills in an open world environment.

An unnamed disaster has taken out all infrastructure in the United States and gamers need to use very limited resources in order to ensure their long-term survival.

Pilot William Mackenzie will be the protagonist of the first episode and the team says that he will have to make tough moral choices linked to the fates of other human beings.

The Long Dark will apparently also deliver content via other media.

The game is set to get a crowd-funding drive via Kickstarter on September 16.

Raphael van Lierop, the creative director of Hinterland, states, “We want to be part of the incredible crowdfunding revolution, and create a direct relationship with our players. This new model allows us directly engage our community, to expand on our existing resources to help achieve our ultimate vision for the game.”
