Naughty Dog, the developer behind the critically acclaimed The Last of Us survival game, has hinted that potential sequels could revisit the actual virus outbreak which was largely ignored by the first game.

The Last of Us told the story of a post-apocalyptic world in which players witnessed both the early stages of a viral infection and its actual results – a world filled with monsters and beasts.

The actual outbreak wasn't covered as a conscious decision from developer Naughty Dog, according to the studio's Eric Monacelli, who talked with fans on the PS blog.

"That was a design decision. Not sure if we’ll ever revisit the outbreak itself but we certainly left that narrative space open."

A The Last of Us sequel has already been rumored for some time now and setting it during the outbreak might make a lot of sense.
