Axel Rydby, the design director working on Tom Clancy’s The Division, says that his team is implementing a lot of role-playing game elements in the upcoming title in order to make sure that players can watch their characters grow and mature.

He is quoted by VG247 as explaining that, “when moving throughout the world, it’s going to be a lot about looting and acquiring new gear as you progress. We’re focusing a lot on the RPG aspects of the game since we are very much an RPG, so acquiring loot and gearing up your character is going to be a very big part of the game.”

The Division takes place in the near future, after an unknown but rapidly spreading disease has brought down all society in the United States.

Players will be able to choose their abilities and skills based on their favorite in-game activities and will never be constrained by a class structure.

The Division will be launched this year on the PC, the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4.
