Gamers can choose between Human, Hiver and Tanka armies and they will have to battle in a range of environments, including lava plains and meteor affected wastes.
Turn-based engagements will test the tactical skills of the player and he will have the ability to enhance his troops as the campaign progresses, with veterans offering more value than rookies.
Each race will also have access to combat cards that can change the course of the war and the team is planning to deliver cross-platform multiplayer as well.
The game will benefit from the extended lore of the Sword of the Star universe, filled with famous units and great generals.
Sword of the Stars: Ground Pounders is expected to launch before Christmas on the PC and other devices.
