The team working on the new Super Smash Bros. on Wii U and 3DS announces that it will add a Skull Kid Assist Trophy to the game, designed to allow players to get the character to fight on their side for a while.

The game addition was revealed by creator Masahiro Sakurai via the Wiiverse service of the Wii U, but the developer has not offered any other details about it.

The message states, “Pic of the day. Here's a new Assist Trophy--the Skull Kid! I repeat, it's an Assist Trophy, not a new fighter. The characters announced on the website are the fighters!”

The Skull Kid will be familiar to fans of The Legends of Zelda who have played The Ocarina of Time, Majora’s Mask, and Twilight Princess and who met the character before or after he entered the Lost Woods.

Super Smash Bros. on Wii U and 3DS will be launched in 2014.
