The development team at Nintendo working on Super Smash Bros. announces that for the first time in the series they are introducing a special stage based on the Paper Mario franchise, which can be blown away by strong winds because of its main building material.

On his official Miiverse account, game director Masahiro Sakurai states, “Since the stage is paper, it transforms when it folds over and opens up again. This ship is the S.S. Flavion from Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door.”

Super Smash Bros. is designed to incorporate all the best known characters and intellectual properties that Nintendo and its associated companies have created, starting with Mario and The Legend of Zelda.

The developers have said that the core mechanics of the franchise will be preserved, but at the same time, the range of characters included opens up a variety of possibilities.

Gamers will also be able to create their own customized character, choosing abilities and combat styles.

Super Smash Bros. will arrive first for Japanese gamers on the Nintendo 3DS handheld on September 13, and gamers in the West will get access to it on October 3.

The Wii U version of the game, which will not have any sort of cross-platform play, will be delivered before the end of the year.
