The team at Nintendo has been notoriously unwilling to link the Super Smash series to the competitive fighting game event, but it seems that the company is shifting its stance and is working with Team Apex to introduce one major tournament in late January.

The official Twitter account of the organization reveals that the Apex 2015 event will include all four titles in the series, with a focus on Super Smash Bros.

Other fighting games that are part of the tournament include: Ultra Street Fighter 4, Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3, Guilty Gear X, and Killer Instinct.

All the tournaments are set to take place on January 30 and February 1 in Secaucus, New Jersey.

The team at Nintendo has not said whether it plans to use the Apex 2015 event in order to see how Super Smash Bros. will fare in a competitive space in order to plan future such collaborations or if this is just a one-off event.

The game director, Masahiro Sakurai, has already said that he does not plan to introduce any sort of balance updates in the future and that he wants the game to remain as accessible as possible, with a focus on fun, not competitions.
