It seems that the team at Valve in charge of Steam development is planning to introduce a new system to the digital distribution service that will allow players to borrow the games that they own via a new shared library.

The files for the most recent beta Steam update include the phrase: “Just so you know, your games are currently in use by %borrower%. Playing now will send %borrower% a notice that it's time to quit.”

Another message quoted by NeoGAF reads, “This shared game is currently unavailable. Please try again later or buy this game for your own library.”

Considering the big discussion over DRM and digital distribution currently linked to the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4, it would be a big hit for Valve to introduce such a player-friendly feature.

The company has not offered any official comment on Steam borrowing features.
