The winter holiday season has been extremely good to Valve’s Steam, as not only did it host a series of massive holiday sales, but it also saw more than 5 million players connected to the digital distribution service at the same time.

Steam is currently the service to beat in terms of digital distribution, as Valve made it extremely popular among PC and Mac gamers thanks to its variety of games on offer and its problem-free experience.

Now, as further proof of its popularity, the Steam stats page shows that the service has reached a new milestone, seeing more than 5 million users connected to it at same time.

While the stats have since been updated, showing a peak in the last 48 hours of around 4.7 million players, it’s great to hear that the service is so popular, especially since quite a lot of developers often claimed that PC gaming would soon lose all its fans.

Based on the most recent statistics, Steam has around 35 million users and offers more than 1800 games through its online store, so expect more and more people to be drawn to the service in the future.
