Valve announces that it is launching a new version of the Steam client program, which is automatically downloaded once a user starts it, in order to fix some general issues with the digital distribution platform and with the Big Picture mode.

The main changes are linked to the new Family features that Steam has, which are being renamed in order to make it easier to distinguish between their functions.

There are also fixes for issues linked to free-to-play games, the instalation process for old retail disks and a conflict with uPlay.

When it comes to the Big Picture mode, Valve has made it is easier to use while dealing with some problems that affected its launch and use with multiple monitors.

The mode is also being prepared for use with the new Valve haptic controller.

A full list of changes is available in the official announcement of the new client version.

This year, Valve plans to launch its new SteamOS and will work with partners to deliver a full range of compatible hardware.
