The development team at Blizzard in charge of the Starcraft 2 World Championship will offer a total prize purse of more than 1.6 million dollars (1.24 million Euro) to the best players in the world when it starts, later during the year.

Gamespot says that it will split the competition into three parallel streams, one each for North America, Europe and South Korea, with three seasons over the course of the year and final events at both a regional and world level.

Each regional event will take place for eight to ten weeks and all the matches will be live streamed at 720p quality.

The best 16 players after those events will take part in the BlizzCon Global Finals to become World Champion.

Competitive gamers will have to commit to one region when the Starcraft 2 World Championship launches, although they will be able to play in other events all over the world.
