The MMO was a chance for the company to experiment

Greg Zeschuk, one of the two co-founders of BioWare and former leader of the company, has refused to comment on whether the performance of Star Wars: The Old Republic has contributed to the ouster of Chief Executive Officer John Riccitiello.

Star Wars: The Old Republic was launched in late 2011 with a subscription model, but the companies involved then admitted that its performance was worse than expected and switched to free-to-play.

The MMO has been receiving constant update since launch, with new zones to explore and new mechanics and the most recent expansion deals with the Hutt criminal cartels.

Greg Zeschuk tells GamesIndustry that, “I can’t really speak to why John’s not there anymore, but it was one of many games released, and we’re in a context where just a few days later it was Yoichi Wada who was booted out from Square Enix.”
