In view of the launch date for Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII drawing ever closer, Square Enix has decided to create a new video chronicle of the events of past Final Fantasy XIII titles.

The eight-minute-long trailer brings a retrospective of the events of Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy XIII-2, and in a surprising move, they are all rendered in classical 16-bit Final Fantasy style.

The video looks back on the exciting stories of the miniseries, showing the events that made Lightning the heroine she is today, and the strength of the bond she shares with her companions.

This serves as both a recollection of events meant to refresh the storyline in players' minds before its conclusion in Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII, and as a nice treat that Square Enix fans all around the world will appreciate.

Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII is already out in Japan, and is set to release for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, on February 11 in North America and on February 14 in Europe.
