The reveal events for both the Xbox One from Microsoft and the PlayStation 4 from Sony offered a lot of information on their capabilities as entertainment platforms and at least one game developer believes that this could pose problems for the future of games.

Warren Spector, best known for his work on Deus Ex and on Epic Mickey, tells Gamespot that, “I think next gen consoles as entertainment devices rather than game machines is a perilous idea.”

The developer believes that most users already have a lot of devices that they can use to have entertainment experiences.

He adds, “if I want to multitask while watching television, I already have to decide which of my devices to do it on.”

Both Sony and Microsoft have promised a focus for video games for the Xbox One and the PS4 during the upcoming E3 2013 trade event.
