Independent developer Space Enigma Studios has just launched a Kickstarter campaign aiming to raise the necessary funds to develop an ambitious sci-fi space exploration game titled Space Pioneer.

In an unusual twist of fate, the development team includes real world astronauts and scientists, along with the usual writers, designers and programmers that make up a regular game creation team.

Together they intend to build a space sim that blends real time strategy and city building mechanics, primarily focused on interstellar exploration and using images and resources gathered with the Hubble telescope and various observatories.

The core gameplay will revolve around space exploration, with players manning an upgradable and customizable spaceship, players being able to jump to the bigger city building and real-time strategy perspective seamlessly, at any time.

Space Pioneer's Kickstarter page offers abundant information regarding the game's intended scope, its main premise and design goals.

Space Pioneer's crowdfunding campaign is open until March 11.
