Masayasu Ito, one of the leaders of the Japanese Sony division, says that the interest for the PlayStation Vita TV coming from Western gamers has surprised his company.

The executive is quoted by Eurogamer as saying that, "Of course we are thinking of launching it in the US and Europe. But when it comes to the timing, we’ll have to watch the environment and identify what other services are available in the US and Europe and whether we’ll have to add other services."

Earlier, Sony revealed that the Vita TV would only launch in Japan and in Asia, where other streaming services had not yet managed to dominate the market.

Licenses for content will also be harder to acquire for North American and European markets.

The device will also allow gamers to play Vita games on their television and to stream content coming from the PlayStation 4 and the PS3.
