The original promise of Gaikai might never become real

John Koller, the leader of hardware marketing at Sony, says that the newly announced PlayStation Now service will not include the ability to take over another user’s PlayStation 4 remotely in order to help him finish a level or a tough challenge.

The executive says that the subject has not progressed beyond the stage where it was in early 2014 when the new home console was first announced.

He tells CVG that, “the idea of this experience with Gaikai is helping to fund things like Remote Play - as an example - a technology experience that allows for that direct transfer. So it's a very powerful technology, but the specific use you talk about, we haven't gone much further with it.”

PlayStation Now is designed to allow gamers to stream video games to a range of devices, starting with the PlayStation 4 and the Vita.

It will be first offered to those who are living in the United States starting with the summer of this year.
