Sony says that the new PlayStation 4, especially its PlayGo system, is designed to make it much easier for players to get access to all the titles they love and will increase rates of adoption for digital distribution in the console space.

John Koller, who is vice president of hardware marketing, tells Kotaku, “The difference between an eight hour download and a 15-minute drive to retail – retail is winning that every time. Physical gaming will proliferate as long as that continues.”

PlayGo will allow gamers to start actually playing the game before they download the entire package.

Sony has not made it clear on which titles the feature will work or whether it will be offered on launch.

Sony is also working with Gaikai technology in order to make it easier to stream and distribute digital content.
