Video game hardware maker Sony is at the moment at a high point when it comes to next-gen performance, with more than 7 million units sold since the November 2013 launch, and it seems that the company believes that its device can perform even better in the near future.

Kaz Hirai, the leader of the company, tells investors in a post financial results briefing that, “It is likely that PS4 will become the platform which exceeds the profits earned with PS2.”

Sony believes that it can sell 17 million home consoles in the coming 12 months, although it has not offered separate numbers for the PlayStation 4 and the PS3.

The performance of the games division of the company increased in the previous year, as the next generation of consoles was introduced, but analysts believe that it could improve its performance in the coming years.

Microsoft has announced that starting on June 9, it is eliminating the Kinect motion tracking system from the Xbox One retail package, while also dropping the price to 399 dollars or Euro.

This could mean a sharper competition between the two next-gen consoles and plenty of sales will be decided by the exclusive announcements that will be made at E3 2014.
