A brand new report has appeared on the web, saying that Sony is close to shutting down its Zipper Interactive studio, the developer behind the hit SOCOM franchise.

Zipper Interactive was founded back in 1995 and, after making a few games on the PC, became extremely popular thanks to the hit PlayStation 2-exclusive title SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs.

The studio was bought by Sony in 2006 and, after that, developed the huge online multiplayer shooter MAG for the PlayStation 3, as well as Unit 13 for the PS Vita, which appeared earlier this month.

According to Kotaku, after all this time, Sony is close to shutting down Zipper Interactive.

No other details are available, but it seems that the future of the studio is all but certain, as its current project is suspended.

As of yet, Sony hasn’t commented on the report, but you can expect some sort of official statement in the near future.
