Andrew House, the leader of the PlayStation division at Sony, says that his leadership team was surprised by the way gamers reacted to Microsoft’s attempts to modify the policies associated with home consoles before the launch of the Xbox One.

He is quoted by MCV as saying that, “That remains the largest surprise for me – how visceral that reaction was from consumers. But the fact that we had to put a stake in the ground, in an area that we felt was just common sense, still has me quite literally scratching my head.”

Microsoft aimed to introduce a set of new DRM policies that would have made digital sales more important but would also have limited the rights of users to lend or sell games on the secondary market.

Sony earned a lot of praise when it announced that its PlayStation 4 would not introduce new limitations.

Both consoles have managed to sell 1 million units during the first 24 hours since being launched.
