Andrew House, the chief executive officer of the PlayStation group at Sony, says that the LDC screen that’s used on the new version of the PlayStation Vita will offer the same quality of visual experience as the older OLED.

The executive commented on the move to replace the standard of the Vita screen by saying that, “The main reason is that the LCD panel can now realize an image quality as high as that of the OLED panel.”

The older screen was hard to manufacture because it could break and Sony sees the new LCD standard as a way of saving money while also making it easier to produce the handheld.

Apparently, the use of the LCD will also reduce the overall thickness of the Vita and will make it easier to handle.

The new PlayStation Vita will initially be sold only in Japan starting on October 10 and no date has yet been announced for Western markets.
