Jack Tretton, the chief executive officer at Sony Computer Entertainment of America, says that indie creators working in small teams and with limited resources are the Steven Spielberg figures of the gaming industry.

He is quoted by GamesIndustry.biz as saying that, “you have the Steven Spielbergs of our industry coming out of one- and two-man teams, out of university development projects, where somebody just has a really creative mind.”

Sony has a long-standing policy of working with indie game makers and has released a number of hits on the PlayStation 3, including the award-winning Journey.

At the same time, the company wants an even bigger indie presence on its new PlayStation 4 and has managed to convince Jonathan Blow, the creator of Braid, to launch his new title on the platform.
