It seems that Sony has a clear strategy to extend the lifetime of the PlayStation 3 home console even after the launch of the next-generation device in the fall of this year.

Jim Ryan, the president and chief executive officer at Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, tells VG247 that both the recently announced Gran Turismo 6 and Beyond: Two Souls are a part of the effort.

He adds, “If you look at the amount of business we did on PS1 after PS2 was introduced, it was a lot. If you look at the amount of business we did on PS2 after PS3 was launched, it too was a lot and we definitely intend this to be the case with PS3 when PS4 comes out.”

Sony says that the PlayStation 3 still has a lot of untapped hardware power.

Gran Turismo 6 will be delivered in winter 2013.
