The team at Sony working on the Gaikai digital distribution and cloud system says that it currently does not have an estimated launch date for the European market because there are problems with broadband access in the region.

Jim Ryan, the president and the chief executive officer at the European division of the company, tells CVG, “Europe is of course on the roadmap for that service to be deployed at some point in the future, but for reasons outside of our control we don't yet have a timeline for it.”

Gaikai tech will be used to deliver content for the PlayStation 4 and the PS3 in early 2014.

Apparently, the broadband problems are important but they will not be able to delay the service for a long time, because Sony sees it as a core element of its long-term strategy.

The PlayStation 4 will not have backwards compatibility for older games and Gaikai is seen as a potential solution, because it can stream titles that are running on other devices.
