The team at Sony that’s in charge of the launch of DriveClub on the PlayStation 4 says that its delay is not linked in any way to the newly revealed Project Morpheus virtual reality headset, despite the fact that they experimented with it at a certain point.

Shuhei Yoshida, who leads the Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios, explains that the team at Evolution simply needed more time to polish the game and to make sure that gamers get a complex and engaging experience.

Gamespot quotes the executive as saying during the Game Developers Conference that, “There's a rumor about the reason of the pushback of Driveclub was to make it Morpheus compatible...that's totally untrue.”

The use of virtual reality in DriveClub would allow players to experience more of the game world and Yoshida says the technology worked fine at low speeds but could cause nausea when the player accelerated.

DriveClub aims to deliver a title that sits halfway between the simulation and the arcade genres.

The racing game, which is designed to have a lot of social features, was initially set to be one of the launch titles for the PlayStation 4, but it was delayed and is now expected to arrive before the end of the year.
