The development team at Bungie and publisher Sony announce that, for the Japanese market, the upcoming shooter Destiny will be exclusively launched on the PlayStation 4 home console and the PS3.

Official launch is set to take place on September 11, and gamers in the West will be able to pick it up on September 9 on the Sony-made consoles but also on the Xbox One and the older 360 from Microsoft.

Destiny is a first-person shooter that will mix traditional elements of the genre with some features taken from social and the massively multiplayer experiences.

The announcement, which is at the moment only posted on a Sony Computer Entertainment Japan page, is probably designed as a response to the revelation that the Xbox One will be offered in the country with free access to both Titanfall and Kinect Sports Rivals.

The Microsoft platform will be available in the territory starting on September 4, while the PlayStation 4 has been up for purchase since late February.

Sony has also announced that PlayStation devices on Western markets will get exclusive content for Destiny, and the company has worked hard to convince players to associate the shooter with its gaming devices.

The move is designed to counteract that traditional association between the Xbox line of consoles and the Call of Duty franchise.
