Sony announces that it will be bringing down the PlayStation Network service on Monday, January 27 between 5.30 and 11.30 PM Greenwich Mean Time in order to perform a number of maintenance operations.

The company says that all those who have signed into the PSN account until then will be able to still play games online and to access a variety of apps.

The Store, the PlayStation Home space and Account Management will not be accessible to users.

Sony states in the official announcement for the downtime that, "We thank you for your patience and support and apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. In order to access online gameplay and partner apps during this routine maintenance, we ask that you please sign in to PlayStation Network prior to Monday, 27th January."

The company is not saying if players will be able to notice any new functionality after the maintenance period for PSN.
