Video game developer and publisher SEGA is announcing that it is working on a new Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice title, which will be delivered only on the 3DS before the end of the year, offering fans of the series a new set of adventures to explore.
The experience is based on the Cartoon Network series starting Sonic the Hedgehog, which has been a solid success with audiences.
SEGA states, "The game will introduce more adventure, speed, exploration, and an all-new fire and ice gameplay element that will help propel the action. Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice, featuring the triumphant return of Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy and Sticks."
The main antagonist is once again Dr. Eggman, but the title will also introduce a new supervillain called D-Fekt.
Sanzaru Games is working on Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice and it's unclear why the game is not also launched on the Wii U home console.
The title will include new exploration mechanics, and the ice and fire system is designed to make even classic gameplay mechanics feel new.
The franchise is also getting a special Sonic Central app for mobile devices in the summer, and SEGA says it is planning a big promotional campaign for Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice.
