Sniper Elite 3 has been officially confirmed by publisher 505 Games and developer Rebellion, as the two companies want to release the new shooter in 2014 for the PC, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, as well as next-generation consoles, like the PlayStation 4 and the oft-rumored Xbox 720.

Update: Sniper Elite 3 will feature a "completely new story" that's still set in World War 2 and emphasizes sniping in a sandbox environment, according to Eurogamer.

Sniper Elite V2 came out last year and delivered a pretty decent first-person shooter experience set in the second world war.

Now, after releasing the downloadable spinoff Sniper Elite: Nazi Zombie Army, publisher 505 Games and developer Rebellion have revealed, via IGN, that a new title is coming next year, in the form of Sniper Elite 3.

No other details have been given by the two companies, but they did reveal that over 1.1 million copies of Sniper Elite V2 had been sold since its release in April last year.

Sniper Elite 3 will appear on the PC, PS3, Xbox 360 as well as on next-gen consoles, like the PlayStation 4 and Xbox 720.
