The development team at Maxis and publisher Electronic Arts have released the first official trailer for Sim City 5 just as the game was getting the official announcement at the Game Developers Conference 2012.

The new trailer does not show too much of the actual game, but it has certainly managed to rekindle memories of the times when I spent hours starring at a virtual city trying to decide where to put the next commercial area and what impact it might have on the city transportation grid.

The development team working on Sim City 5 promises that the new game will retain the simulation elements that have made the series bellowed while also including new elements, including more autonomy for the virtual citizens and leaderboards that track and compare player success.

Sim City does not have a launch date or a clear list of supported platforms, although it seems clear that it is aiming both for the PC and home consoles.
